Spiritual Sight

God opens the eyes of my heart so that I may know the hope to which he has called me.

Glorious Riches and Matchless Power

He shows me the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his matchlessly great power for us who believe.  That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Jesus Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.

How can I increase my love for God?

I can think of four ways to increase your love for God.  First, pray.

Ask the Lord for a deeper love for him.  Your prayer can be spoken.  It also can be sung like the hymn written by  Elizabeth P. Prentiss, entitled More Love for Thee.  She wrote these four prayerful verses as she dealt with the overwhelming grief of losing two of her children to sickness and death. Read more of this post

Prepare to Hear God’s Word

Remember: Christian love is more action than a feeling.  Your actions will reveal either your love for God and others or your lack of love for them.

Read & Listen for God’s Voice

Jesus made the following statement on the night before his crucifixion.  Read it several times emphasizing the word “if” in each repetition.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.  If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command.”  (John 15:9-14) Read more of this post

Prepare to Hear God’s Word

Do you agree or disagree with this definition of love?  What, if anything, would you do to improve it?

Love is intentionally seeking the best for another person no matter what the cost and no matter how he/she may respond.

Love Over All

Today is the nineteenth day of the Advent season. The theme of our third week is LOVE.

Prepare to Hear God’s Word

In your opinion, what are the top five virtues of a true follower of Jesus Christ?  What sets you apart from the good people who don’t follow Jesus?

Read & Listen for God’s Voice

Read this passage in a solemn whisper several times.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  (Colossians 3:12-14) Read more of this post

Prepare to Hear God’s Word

Ponder the awesome wonder of the human body in motion — an athlete sprinting toward the finish line, a dancer spinning in the air — even a toddler learning to walk.  Each of these  requires thousands of parts and millions of cells communicating and cooperating with each other to happen.

Read & Listen for God’s Voice

Read this passage in a solemn whisper several times.

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  (Ephesians 4:15-16) Read more of this post

It won't be long

Prepare to Hear God’s Word

Think about Jesus’ death on the cross.  Imagine the pain, the shame and the agony he endured.

Read & Listen to It

Read this passage in a solemn whisper several times.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.  (1 John 3:16-18) Read more of this post
