Blessing of the Bikes

Would Jesus hang out with bikers? You better believe it!

Last evening I had the privilege of praying for several riders and their motorcycles at a “Blessing of the Bikes.”

Here’s my prayer them and for all of you who enjoy riding your bike.

May God bless your going out & your coming in.
May the Lord be with you at home & on the road.
May all your rides be safe.
May God’s grace, mercy & love always show you the way home to him.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What does the Bible mean when it talks about “seeking” the Lord?

You’ve experienced this idea of seeking in all of your growing relationships.  Parents and children seek to know and understand each other.  Friends spend time and energy in order to know each other better.

The Amazing Truth about God’s Address

Where can we go to find God?  What’s his address?

God is much closer than you might think.

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity,
    the Holy One, says this:
“I live in the high and holy place
    with those whose spirits are contrite and humble.
I restore the crushed spirit of the humble
    and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts. (Isaiah 57:15)

Because he is not limited by time and space

3 Things Every Praying Person Needs

Every faith-filled man or woman of prayer needs three things. 

1. You must have a time to meet with God.
2. You require a place to pray.
3. You need something to talk to God about in prayer.

Most pray-ers will have no problem filling the prayer appointment with requests.  People always share their needs with praying men and women.  Keeping track of all the requests may require use of a notebook or journal.

4 Steps You Can Take to Hear from God

Here are 4 steps you can take to make sure you hear from God.

1. Find a quiet place.  Your place does not need to be silent.  A babbling brook or trees filled with singing birds make a fine backdrop as you listen for God’s voice.  Songs of praise and worship can also be helpful.  Simply find a place where you can be alone with the Holy Spirit.
2. Write down your thoughts.  Take along paper and pen to record your impressions.  Keep a small notebook and pencil in your pocket all the time.  You never know when you might hear from God.

4 Signs that You ARE Hearing from God

You are hearing from God if…

1. You are feeling convicted of a sin.  When the Holy Spirit speaks to you about a sin in your life, he will convince you that it is wrong; that it is forgivable; and that together the two of you can make it right.
2. You are more convinced than ever that the Bible is true.  When the Spirit leads or talks to you, he will always do so in agreement with God’s Word.

4 Warning Signs that You’re not Hearing from God

You are not hearing from God if…

1. You are feeling condemned and accused of sins too great for grace to deal with.  If you feel like you’ve failed God so badly that there is no hope for you, if you cannot gets your sins out our your mind, then you are listening to “the accuser.”
2. You are thinking about doing something that violates the Bible’s clear teaching.  If you think God is telling you to kill someone, stop and immediately seek professional help.  If your feel God is leading you to desert your family, don’t do it. If you think God is telling you to break one of his commandments, then you are listening to the wrong voice.

3 Signs Your Prayers Are Powerful

How can I develop a powerful prayer life?

Here are three signs your prayers are becoming powerful.

Your prayers adapt to every situation.

• It’s right to pray in times of trouble and suffering.
• It’s right to pray in times of cheerfulness and happiness.
• It’s right to pray in times of weakness and illness.
• It’s right to pray when we’ve sinned.

Does God change his mind in response to prayer?

A friend sent me the following question. “I read once that prayers change the mind of God sometimes. Do you think God’s will is altered at times with persistent prayers?”

My short answer is yes sometimes God changes his mind in response to our prayers.

There are instances in the Bible that demonstrate that. When the people of Israel worshiped a golden calf, the Lord declared he planned to wipe them out. However, Moses prayed for them and God repented or changed his mind about the judgment. (Exodus 32:1-14) When King David prayed for the people of Israel, God changed his mind and stopped the angel of death as it approached Jerusalem. (2 Samuel 24) The Bible proclaims we often don’t have what we want simply because we did not ask for it. (James 4:1-2)
